KazGASA Celebrates Its 45th Anniversary
On 14 April 2026, Almaty Theatre hosted a special event marking the 45th anniversary of the Kazakh Leading Academy of Architecture and Civil Engineering (KazGASA). The celebration brought together representatives of the public sector, international partners, alumni and members of the professional community.
The anniversary programme included an extended meeting of the KazGASA Board of Trustees, attended by Sayasat Nurbek, Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Following the meeting, the Board's composition was renewed and its membership increased to ten. Statesman and public figure Krymbek Kusherbayev joined the Board and was elected Chair. The position had previously been held by Bekzat Sarmanov, an Honoured Builder of Kazakhstan and Chair of the Board of Directors of Elitstroy Group, who continues to serve as a member of the Board.
The programme continued with a gala concert combining official and cultural elements. Welcome addresses were delivered by Aigazy Kussainov, Chair of the IEC Supervisory Board; Krymbek Kusherbayev, Chair of the KazGASA Board of Trustees; Sayasat Nurbek, Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan; and Michelle Yerkin, Consul General of the United States.
During the event, Minister Sayasat Nurbek presented departmental awards to representatives of the Academy. Aigazy Kussainov received the Akhmet Baitursynuly badge. Gulnaz Ibraimbayeva and Banu Azhgaliyeva were awarded the badge "For Contribution to the Development of the Mother Tongue."
Another important announcement was the launch of the Academician Amirlan Kussainov Educational Foundation, established to support students and young researchers and to help develop the sector's human capital.
The evening programme also featured an awards ceremony and the conferral of the title of Honorary Professor on representatives of the professional and academic community, including Aidar Tatygulov, Erik Besimbayev, Ignacio Menendez and Alexander Belovich. Guests were also shown an anniversary film dedicated to the Academy's alumni history and institutional development.
The cultural programme featured creative performances and a concert by Kazakhstani artist Aikyn Tolepbergen, and concluded with the performance of the KazGASA anthem.
The anniversary marked an important milestone in the Academy's development and highlighted its future priorities: expanding practice-oriented education, integrating digital technologies and strengthening international cooperation.
